Ascent Trip Report

In the Northeastern USA for business. Took advantage of a couple of weekends to complete state highpoints in the area. I had done Mt Marcy the previous day, and Mt Mansfield earlier that morning. Was racing, because I thought I remembered that the auto toll road to Mt Washington closed at 4:30 PM and I was nip and tuck for time (arrived after 4 PM). Turns out the road is open until 6 PM, so no problem. Yes, I took the easy way to the top. No regrets. That would be one tough hike. Above the tree line (top half of the mountain) is like a moonscape. It would be a really tough hike. You have to climb the last 50 or 100 feet from the parking lot to a rather large summit area. Several structures, it would be anyone's guess where the original "undisturbed" peak might have been. I had my picture taken next to the sign, where the nominal high point seems to be.
As you might expect, there were probably at least a hundred or more people in the general summit area, taking pictures, visiting displays, etc. I was solo, but not alone. A line of a dozen or so people waiting to get their picture taken at the "peak".
