Ascent Trip Report

Went up the chute immediately south of the peak from the highest lake in Pioneer Basin and then down via the northeast ridge... pretty much in line with Greg Gerlach's path and GPX track.

Heavy snow year and I was hoping to find a break through the chute staying on rock as I didn't have any snow gear with me. Turns out it was still wall to wall snow near the top, went for it anyway and though it made it a bit spicier the snow was soft enough that it wasn't a dealbreaker. From the top it is easy class 2 to the top. Opted to go down the class 3 NE Ridge mostly to avoid this snow and also take advantage of the sand back down to the lakes in Pioneer Basin. Like Greg, I also dropped down about 150 feet to the north side. Mostly class 3, much of it quite loose but not too exposed, and there are a couple cairns marking the way though it is fairly obvious, at least on the way down.
