Ascent Trip ReportGrays is my 7th Summit. Torreys is my 8th Summit. Day 2 of the trip with the newbies and first timers: Scott Kuehler, Robert Norton, Brent Holscher and Matt Sharkey. And non-newbie Jon Hawthorne. We did the Grays and Torrey’s combo from the Grays Trailhead. Woke at 4, left condo in Silverthorne CO at 5 and arrived at the Trailhead at 5:40am. Parking lot was full so parked on the road about .25 miles down from lot. Started hike at 5:45am. Headlamps not really necessary at that time. Temps in the low 40s and skies clear. Perfect day to hike. Grays trail was a nice slow and steady incline for a few miles. After the Kelso Ridge trail portion the trail became more of an incline with rock stairs. The trail has many switchbacks all the way to the Grays Summit. Peaked Grays at 4.1 miles in and 2hrs 45min. Stick around Summit for 20 min then headed down the saddle to Torrey’s. Summited Torrey’s about 50 minutes later and at mile 5. Beautiful views and clear skies all day. Descended down Torrey’s and cut through on a trail on saddle that included some snow to meet up back with origins trail we ascended. Back to vehicles at 12:30 for a total hiking time of 6hrs 45min. Total moving time was 5hrs 10min. Definitely would do this hike again.
