Ascent Trip Report

Trip with first timers Scott Kuehler, Brent Kolscher, Matt Sharkey, and Robert Norton. Jon Hawthorne joined as well for the second year in a row. We completed the DeCaLiBron Loop clockwise with Democrat first, then Cameron, Lincoln and finally Bross. We woke up at 4am and left Dillon CO at 5am for the Kite Lake Trailhead. Arrived at 6 (parked .25 miles from trailhead down the road) and began our hike at 6:15. Beautiful day with clear skies. Temps in the mid to upper 30s at the start. Democrat ascent was busy with many hikers. Summited Democrat in 2 hours then up to Cameron in another 2 hours. Up to Lincoln in 20 minutes and then to Bross in an hour. Winds started at Cameron and were very bad. Blowing gusts that we figured were over 50mph. Bross is closed to the public (private property) but did it anyway. Winds here were more then Cameron. Probably 60-75mph. It was blowing grown men sideways knocking us over a few steps. Descent down Bross was scree and not recommended but “fun” to try anyway. Definitely a good trip around DeCaLiBron hitting my 4th, 5th, and 6th 14er summits (Cameron isn’t official). Total hike was 8.1 miles. Total moving time was 5hr 20min. Total hike time was 6hr 50min. Down to vehicles a little before 1pm. An additional funny side note was Jon Hawthorne was bitten by a dog who was hiking with its owners.
