Ascent Trip Report

Mtnrs trip - Andy Cahn leader - there were nine of us. This was a beautiful clear day - no wind, perfect temperature, no bugs. We went up from Chinook Pass and followed the PCT for about three miles past Three Way Peak before traversing back to gain the ridge line. This was rated as a T5 hike which I was looking forward to. Although we had to do some route finding as usually as we made our way up the ridge and there was as fair bit of brush and handsie-footsie stuff I did not think there was any particularly uncomfortable exposure. We came back down at a rather leisurely pace and six of us decided to also go up Yakima Peak which basically went up from the parking lot. Yakima was at least as challenging as Three Way Peak. Cindy had a track line that showed us going to the saddle, circling behind the peak and traversing way right to gain the ridge and then following the ridge back to the top. We were tempted by a couple of more direct routes up to the ridge, but Andy was more inclined to stick with the ridge line track. We were tempted by the first gully as we came around the backside both going up and down, but in the end decided to stick with the ridge line which was more of a known quantity. It was also getting a bit late going down so we decided not to explore an uncertain alternative. In the end it looked steep by doable. WE were also tempted by a second gully - until we got a better look - that was too steep. Anyway, good group - good trip.
