|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||12497 ft / 3809 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI parked at the highpoint of White Mountain Peak Road directly due east of Limestone Peak and the obvious parking area there. The route is straight up the face of Limestone Peak, and then once you hit the first bench, heading to the right to wrap around Limestone and then getting to the east slope of Sheep Mountain.
I started at about 1:00 pm. The beginning of this route gets your attention. It is straight up. Fortunately, it does not last too long, and it starts to level out, and one can clearly see the bench wrap around the right side of Limestone Peak.
Once wrapped around, Sheep Mountain is on the far side of wide open country. No route issues. Simply pick a line and hike it up to the peak. I started a little left of center as there was some good vegetation patches which gave good footing paths up most of the peak. The final few minutes of the climb is mostly rock, but the footing is very good. No summit register on the peak, but a small semi-circle rock shelter. The appearance, view, slope, etc. are practically the same as for Piute Mountain.
I retraced my steps down Sheep Mountain and then headed directly over to Limestone Peak. Instead of wrapping around it, I hiked up the broad "orange slope" between the two white summit piles. (The southern pile -- the one on the right -- is the summit.) From the top of Limestone Peak, it is an easy descent straight down and back to the car. I arrived back at 1:55 pm.
