Ascent Trip Report

1h40 up from Passauerhutte, 2hrs down, in cloud but dry, slight breeze. 0830 caught Almwandertaxi (minibus) from Weissbach bei Lofer, dropped us at 1340m 47.49140° N, 12.77416° E for path to Passauerhutte, 1h45 hike.

Forecast suggested thunder pm but hut warden reckoned we'd be OK to summit and he was right, no rain all afternoon. He advised a circuit, up the west ridge (mostly unprotected, some easy scrambling, well paintmarked), descend north (cable protected, W of ridge).to Kuchelnieder col, pleasant small detour north to Kuchelhorn (hut guardian told us he had put up the - very new - cross), then descend E from col (fork L signed Ferrata A, grade A/B we reckoned) then marked trail crossing scree and snowfields (no need for crampons) leading back to hut, friendly scenic place, where we spent the night before catching 0900 minibus back to Weissbach. Hut was full, Lee had booked us in a few days before.
