Ascent Trip Report

Drove up from Paradise to Hinkey Summit and past the radio facility to the end of the dirt road. Began hiking at 9:20am with a temperature of 73 degrees. Followed an easily identified cow/hiker path on the northern side of a barbed wire fence line. At some point I crossed to the southern side of the fence and proceeded to the summit. For me, the final 20 vertical feet required some class 3 hand holds. The summit register is in an ammo case placed on a metal pole. I added a new log book and placed it as well as the older book inside a plastic baggie with a new pen. Scanning the horizon I spotted another log book down the northern slope which I retrieved and placed it inside the ammo case. That register only had 1 entry from October 2018. No idea why it was tossed down the hill. The last remnants of paintbrush and blue lupines are fading, but a white lupine at lower elevation seemed to be continuing and had a nice fragrance. A couple of small snow patches are quickly disappearing. Back to the vehicle with the temperature now 84 degrees. Small cumulus clouds now beginning to form.
