Ascent Trip Report

8/3/2019 - got to National Park Service office in Marblemount about 9AM - over run with people getting permits
No permits were available up toward Sahale except Boston Basin which involves a lot of glacier travel.
Drove to campgrounds and looked for site. Got one at Mineral Springs as someone was leaving. Campgrounds were generally full.
Drove to trailhead which was overflowing with cars. Drove back to Marblemount to communicate with Merlin Ekvall.
Lunch at Buffalo Run Restaurant. Hiked up one hour (~2000 ft) toward Lookout Mountain Lookout.
Back to camp to read and wait for Merlin etc.

8/4/2019 - Got up at 4:15AM
drove out of camp at 5:15AM
left trailhead at 6AM
on top just before 2pm
back to car about 8:15pm

Rock at top had considerable amount of exposed scrambling. I would not have done it without a rope and Merlin's willingness to belay me. He often climbed without protection stuff I would not do without a belay. We down climbed from the top since his rope was 60 meters and others rappelling from the top with 70 meter ropes said theirs was none too long. We rappelled from lower tie off slings.
