Ascent Trip ReportThis is a great hike! You do have to hop a couple of gates at the start, although this is allowed. From there an old jeep road winds up and then along Eagle Creek, which was a constant companion. After a couple of miles the jeep road ends and a single track takes you the rest of the way to the headwaters of Eagle Creek. The trail winds through a variety of terrain - forest, open country among mules ears, along the creek, and aspen groves. Very nice variety. The trail is a little overgrown in spots, and occasionally was lost. It was never too hard to find the trail again.
The trail ends at the south ridge leading up to the final climb (about 10,200 feet). Water can be found from the headwater, at least most of the year (plenty to be had in early August). The final climb is quite steep, but the terrain is easy for the most part. The area between 11.2 and 11.6 was very slow going for me, once you clear that part victory is at hand. No register at the top, and much too windy and cold to stay for more than a minute. We quickly descended back down to 10.2 to recharge before making the final 7 mile trek back to the TH, where it was a warm 84 degrees.
