Ascent Trip Report

A family holiday in Vienna gave me the opportunity to climb Schneeberg. We took the train from Wien Hauptbahnhof to Puchberg am Schneeberg, with a change of train at Wiener Neustadt. We then took the train from Puchberg up the mountain. This is expensive but makes the ascent much shorter, so I felt it was worth the money. From the top station it is an easy walk on a clear path up to the summit. This took us about an hour and 20 minutes at a leisurely pace. There is a summit cross but the actual summit is unmarked and lies between the cross and the nearby building. Everyone heads for the cross and we were the only people to head for the actual summit. The view is extensive, although it was hazy when when we were there due to the summer heat. We carried on to Kaiserstein and descended at a breakneck speed in order to get to the top station for our booked train down. Climbed with my 9 year old son, James.
