Ascent Trip Report

Elbert + massive loop attempt
Started North TH at 3:40 am, reached the summit by 6:20.
Descended via NW ridge which starts just SW of the summit - very chossy. Stayed right down into a snow filled gully when I got to shoot 12,200', but I believe the ridge could have been class 3 scrambling down. Walked through a small grove of pines and linked up with the ATV trail that goes up to the mine below Frasco and Casco. Doubt any ATVs will get that way until someone cleans up the avalanche debris covering the trail (the avalanches came off French mountain and crossed the creek).
At the spot where you're supposed to cross halfmoon Creek, the water is raging, so I went down a bit and found a log to cross over. The log is old and I could feel it moving... Not sure if I recommend that.
Again at the larger halfmoon Creek where the ATV trail joins the main road, the creek has to be forded. Easy going here.
I keep going up the road and hit the SW massive trailhead. I made it up to about 12,000' before thunderstorms rolled in earlier than predicted at 10:30 am and ended the day.

If I had kept going, I would have looped down the southeast peak route to the CDT and back to the car lot.
