Ascent Trip ReportMy source of trail information and the roads referred-to here are clearly shown on Goggle Earth. My approach was from the Canadian side of the Boundary Line.
The TH for the routes described here for the "Boundary Monuments 486.14 and 487.10" is one of the same ...... it is the dirt road on the southside of rue Verchers (hwy #210), 4.5km west of hwy #257 at Chartierville or 11.5km east of Saint-Mathias-de-Bonneterre on hwy #210 (just east of the bend in rue Verchers). There was an open gate here and a house inside to the left. Park here this is the TH.
I hiked sb up the road about 500M to a second locked gate at a brook crossing, walked around/continued up the road, around a left bend to another road coming in from the right (at about 300M). Turn right and follow it to its first bend left ...... at the end of this bend is where the routes to the two destinations split-off, this is about 1km from the TH and for the purpose of this report I call this area "Point X".
For 486.14 .... stay/continue up the road generally southbound as described here below.
For 487.10 .... from "Point X" bushwack west to the Boundary Swath, see its TR for details for this route.
From "Point X" I continued up the good road to a dead-end (about Ikm) at a small clearing, pass a new Hunter's Cabin on the right and a Hunter's Shooting Tower on the left. At the clearing I followed the grass track heading southwest to the Boundary, at 70M I made a left turn on a good trail that leads a short distance south to a Hunter's Lick Trap. From here I followed an unmaintained trail/herd path/bushwack generally southeast 300M to the Boundary Swath, just west of Border Survey Marker 486.17.
I turned left, eastbound, on a well used track and climbed 70M to the first bump at the orange Survey Marker 486.17 (on the Canadian side of the Swath) ...... a candidate for the highpoint of this area, my GPS reading was 45.27166, 71.25426.
I continued eastbound a short distance, going around a few wet areas, to the second bump on the Boundary Swath and my pick for the highpoint of this area "Boundary Monument 486.14" .... my GPS reading was 45.27017, 71.25163, the orange Survey Marker 486.14 on the USA side of the Swath and this highpoint is about 2 1/2km from the TH.
This highpoint is typical of most of the other Boundary Monuments, except for the Boundary Swath there is no view to speak-of and therefore not recommended.
From here I returned the same way to "Point X" and bushwacked to "Boundary Monument 487.10", see its TR for the details.
The totals for both Boundary Monuments is 7km, 3 hours for the RT.
