Ascent of Sherpa Peak on 2019-07-14
|Date:||Sunday, July 14, 2019|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8605 ft / 2622 m|
Ascent Trip ReportFollowed known beta to 5800' to cross over creek and ascend up ridge to cross over into the Sherpa gully. Stayed high after crossing over to avoid boulder fields for a while. Went left of waterfall then trended right toward the summit to find the flat rock bivy site. Still no running water at flat rock (7400'), but was able to melt snow right at rock.
Completed route in 5 pitches, pitch 3 was more of a exploratory belay (sandy benches pitch). Was able to scrambled back unroped. Lots of beta on the web for the west ridge route which is accurate. Pitch 4 was the crux for us, which required a high heel hook. A taller person could get this done a bit easier.
Did 2 single rope rappels from the summit and one double for the final two pitches. Can get all done with single rope rappels (60m).
No crampons and axe needed.
