Ascent Trip Report

After climbing Vanil Noir the previous afternoon, we drove across to Lenk, got a meal, then drove up to investigate the trailhead. The most convenient parking spot was just inside the forest, past the last building, by the authorised vehicles sign, at N46 28 21.7 E7 28 26.2, 1879m, so we spent the night here.

Starting at 05:35, we followed the forest road a short way S, across a stream, entering the high pasture at a gateway, heading E to join the waymarked trail which leads to Tierberg. From here there is a fine view, S and E to the Oberland summits, and N along the ridge to Albristhorn itself. It's a nice ridge route, with an almost Scottish feel, some exposure, occasional scrambling, a few minor tops to cross.

The first summit reached (07:45) has a mast and cross. The map indicates the E summit is 1m higher, at N46 29 52.7 E7 29 16.1 (cairn). Reversing our outward route we're back at the car at 09:35 - a 4 hr circuit.

We then drove a little way N for an afternoon ascent of Schafberg.
