Ascent Trip ReportClimbed this in tandem with Peak 8964, Bob Stewart Peak, and the Wellsville Cone. Started from the Maple Bench TH; went up through Stewart Pass. I'm not sure this trail is used much any more. Although there are valiant local efforts to keep it cleared (and it shows in the lower portions), the final 1/4 mile before gaining Stewart Pass is heavily overgrown. The trail is discernible, but the thick, unyielding overgrowth is at shoulder and head height, forcing a great deal of ducking, crouching, and scooting. Additionally, because of the steepness, multiple 'veggie belays' are required, both ascending and descending. Words don't exist that can overstate the unpleasantness. Until the entirety of this trail is cleared, use Rattlesnake Canyon or Deep Canyon TH's to access the really great Wellsville Mountains high ridge trail.
Why is this peak labeled Bob Stewart Peak on some topo maps? See my Bob Stewart Peak TR for info.
