Ascent Trip Report

The parking lot was free of snow but the hike for a mile or so made us move/climb on snow from the trailhead. We did end up bushwacking on the way up as more snow melted as we missed a right turn as soon as we took a left towards Horse camp. This is the winter route following/going up in the gully all the way to the base of the slope below Lake Helens (basecamp).
We camped on snow and started our climb at 2:15 am. the Route is pretty straightforward, the rangers asked us to avoid the thumb due to snowmelt and danger of rock fall. We followed the route leading up to it and moved left to climb through the Red Banks and onto Misery Hill. We took a small nap here and felt revived and charged to the summit thereafter :) Made to the summit by 9:00 am.
Beware of glissading as the snow below the red banks is harder to stop yourself due to hard snow/deep chute/icy conditions. Evaluate and be prepared to walk down. It is much safer that way.
On the way back from the camp to the cars, this time we followed the gully down to intersect the loop trail just to the west of the junction closer to the trailhead.
