Ascent Trip Report

If you have come up to the summit for Haleakala, then its a piece of cake to do Magnetic Peak.It is the second highest peak on Maui and its just down from Haleakala across the parking lot.It is called Magnetic Peak because of the high content of metallic content in the soil and has said to really screw up your compass if you have one.The State of Hawaii has planted the Silversword plants/bushes.They only grow in certain areas high upon Haleakala.Just down the road/parking lot is a radio observatory put here by the University of Hawaii. There are several out buldings, most likely for the University of Hawaii. This was my first trip here in 1976,and made asecond trip here in 1985. We also climbed Haleakala
