Ascent Trip Report

Drove up to near the top in dusk. There was still lots of snow on the shelf road and it was quite exciting. We were thankful to have our LED light bar on our roof rack. At one point, there was a large snow bank on the side of the road which had produced a foot deep puddle of muddy water in the road. It was the only wide spot, so we turned around inside the water and then pulled off the road. The only place to pull off had a snow bank so we had to park with both wheels on steep, icy snow - quite treacherous. It was now totally dark, so we grabbed our headlamps and traversed the ridge over to the highpoint. Just as we topped out, the fireworks above Tahoe City started and we got to witness a beautiful show. We could even see the other fireworks in Incline Village and South Lake Tahoe. Content with the fireworks and peak, we headed back to the car and drove back down to Truckee. Some other people had the same idea as us to watch the fireworks from the peak since there were three cars trailing us on the way out despite it being 10pm.
