Ascent Trip ReportStats include both Arrowhead and McKinley.
It's really too late in the season to climb Lower Peaks, but we had the time and inclination so headed out to do Arrowhead and McKinley. We lucked out with some cloud cover until just before summiting Arrowhead. Used Mihai's route, took loppers, and cleaned up the route at the top a bit more. I'd encourage anyone going up there to do the same.
McKinley, geez, why are these brushy bumps on a list? It was hot, dusty, lots of pollen flying, brushy, buggy. But it's done. The important thing to know is that it is NOT possible to park at the trailhead because flooding, mud, and road equipment has made a big enough berm that it's not possible with a standard SUV to get over it, plus the cars are whipping down the highway around a curve--it's just not a safe location. Instead, park about 50 yards downhill on the other side of the highway in a large turnout. Wait for the traffic to break (it does every few minutes) and then hightail it to the trailhead or back to the car. Be VERY careful crossing the highway. The shoulders are minimal and brush hangs over the rail making them even narrower.
Better yet, just don't climb the peak.
