Ascent Trip Reportalthough i was skeptical at first, starting low it was warm, and a boring road hike.but as i got up above 7500' the wildflowers were awesome. from the summit my view was a gorgeous meadow, with hole-in-the-mountain providing an excellent snow-capped backdrop. i'm not sure i could have timed this better: it's so easy to forget how green nevada can be for a few weeks each year. this made my weekend.
at other times of the year i worry that the drive in could be a fire hazard: grass is growing tall in the middle of the two-track, and it would be difficult to avoid touching it with your hot exhaust. it was still a bit green at the lower elevations, but definitely drying up already.
when the other trip reports say the road is bad, they really mean it. i really don't recommend driving much further than where the "faint trail" starts... it's OHV territory after that. even a narrow vehicle is going to have difficulty now, there is some serious damage to the road. i made it slightly further than the point marked "my trailhead"... but i was barely able to turn around and get back to where i ended up parking for the hike. the road is pretty ugly past this spot. on the other hand, it's a gentle grade, and if you're a mountain biker it would probably be fine.
i followed a mixture of ken jones and sam grant's track.
