Ascent Trip ReportThis was a Mountaineers trip. Despite a forecast of partly sunny, we had pea-soup thick fog/low clouds for most of the day completely obscuring any peaks and landmarks around us. Luckily, the clouds lifted while we were on the summit and for a short time, the mountains in all their glory were revealed! We did not have ideal conditions for the ascent route via Fishers Hornpipe - this would probably be better with snow on the ground. As it was, it was a pretty hearty bushwhack. Recent rain and snow melt at the higher elevations resulted in quite slippery terrain and wet brush that had everyone soaked from the waist down. Lots of small creeks and standing water/marshy areas made for wet boots. Navigation was not too difficult: keep the creek to climber's left and follow the path of least resistance. We made good use of game trails when we came across them. There is a very beautiful waterfall ~4800'? - after getting a peak at it, head away from the creek to get around a cliffy area by the falls. A bit further up, we got sucked into travelling up a gully that got us too far east of the route - beware of this. Eventually, at ~5600', we found the unmaintained trail that comes in from Mirror Lakes and were able to follow it (intermittently losing it through areas of snow-cover) to the summit. The views from the summit, if not obscured, are spectacular. We descended via the Wonderland Trail - although longer seemed safer and easier than descending via the ascent route.
I tried to upload the GPS track but it exceeds the 3000 maximum number of points. Perhaps one of the other trip members will be able to successfully upload.
