Ascent Trip ReportGreat trip. Led for Mountaineers with Katheryn as mentored leader, but everyone very experienced so no leading needed. Left TH around noon on a beautiful day and arrived at Boulder Shelter around 3:30pm. Upper Dungeness Trail in excellent condition and a few rhododendrons still blooming. Set up camp in a meadow area w/established sites as areas around the shelter already taken. So happy to find no bugs yet. Left camp at 5am next day. Left the trail onto the boulders a hour later. Hit some snow as we neared the tarn at 5900'. Tarm just starting to melt out. Took a break and started northeasterly towards the couloir. Put on crampons and took out ice axes as we neared the base of the couloir. Snow firm and good for cramponing. Last 100 hundred feet or so before the notch was snow free so the scree was awful. Snow on the other side of the notch. We were going to climb the steep snow to the base of the rock, but saw melted footsteps going to the east. Decided to follow it and do the scramble route. Took a snow finger up to get on the rock. Removed crampons and then headed up the ridge to the summit. Got there around 10am. Small summit so hard to fit all 6 of us, but we made it work. Beautiful views all around. Back at the notch around 11:30 to eat lunch. Back to camp to pack and back at the TH about 5pm. Great day, great weather, great group.
