Ascent Trip Report

This was our first new firetower of the year and one of the furthest away. Trailhead was really easy to find with lots of parking. The sign in box is about 0.2mi down a dirt road. The first two miles of this trail were easy. There was a bit of elevation change, you actually end up going downhill around 1.5mi but overall it was an easy gradient. At 2.2mi you cross a mini-bridge and after this incline picks up (a physics nerd might describe it by saying that the parallel force acting on them increased). It was a bit wet still but this barely impacted the footing on the trail. There were some mud spots but the mud never actually came up to/covered the laces on my boots so I'd say that's pretty good. There's about 3/4 of a mile of semi-steep trail and then it levels out a bunch before the summit. There was a nice side trail that brought us to bare rock facing west. It's rare to see from that side of the adirondacks so that was a cool surprise. The summit itself was wide with lots of bare rock to sun yourself on. The tower is short in comparison to many of them but it had 360-degree views. Stuck around for a few minutes and then headed back down.
