Ascent Trip ReportLeft the car at about 10:33 a.m. and were back at 2:10. Summit at 3.26 miles, 1 hr 43 minutes. Total distance 6.52 miles, 1 hr 26 minutes down. (3 hours 9 minutes total)
The 1st 2 miles are a rambling walk in the woods with gentle ups and downs, we averaged around 25 minutes a mile. The trail was muddy in spots but not too bad, it is clearly a lot worse at other times. Just after 2 miles the hike become steeper but still not terribly difficult. At around 2.8 miles you make a sharp right and that is where the climb really starts. The quarter mile here really slowed me down. Some very steep bits following water with large rocks. After that the trail becomes a gentle climb again, almost level until you reach the branch off to the 1st view and then the final summit with the fire tower.
We summited at about 12:15, and there was almost no one there. Glad we went early as the summit quickly became crowded and we passed many many groups on their way up as we went down. The bugs were super annoying but not the worst we've seen.It was very windy at the top so that helped a bit with the bugs. The view from the fire tower is amazing. Pretty much 360.
First new tower of the year - 19 for me, 20 for Jordyn. |
