Ascent Trip ReportTook the Cascade/Pitchoff trail for an out and back. Along the first part are some real nice views of Rt 73 and Cascade Lakes ."It provides outstanding views of the new #7 slide and the namesake cascade waterfall on Cascade Mountain." https://www.lakeplacid.com/do/hiking/balanced-rocks Some small scrambles throughout with one large section where the trail markers disappeared. Three routes showed on the GPS. All were pretty badly eroded or tough to follow. The one in the middle was the steepest, with the most difficult scramble. I chose left and sort of bushwhacked a little until finding the trail again (later read that was the way to go, on the way back, trail was more clean but sent me straight down the middle, which was not advised). Anyhow, you'll come to a faded trail marker with small Sharpie writing saying "Balanced Rocks". Turn right and you'll find a big open area with beautiful views. Soak it up because the summit of Pitchoff is wooded with a small view just past it.
