Ascent Trip ReportWith Sean and Ava. After rock climbing yesterday with Brook at Castle Rock and then Classic Crack, and Brook and Sean practiced simulclimbing Groundhog Day I figured Ava really needed some run time and Sean and I could use some exercise. Even though it was HOT I knew the steep switchbacks up to Bootjack were pretty shady and forested. Ava was sooooo happy running around!!! Only saw a gentleman with two huskies on leash and a big German Shepherd and his female companion a bit behind.
Unsure of where and how much snow we would find we figured we might have to turn around since I just had sneakers, Sean approach shoes and no poles, axe, or traction. Hit snow in the meadow off and on, then fairly consistent and avoided a steeper traverse by heading up into trees and joining the trail again after it had turned right and up. Tons of blooming glacier Lillie’s and gorgeous views with sun and blue skies!
Started around Noon, summit about 2:40pm, back to van about 4:45, last in the parking area. Dinner at Cottage Cafe with the always amazingly friendly, professional and fast service. Diner extraordinaire! |
