Ascent of Kumiva Peak on 2010-06-13
|Date:||Sunday, June 13, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8220 ft / 2505 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI approached Kumiva from Hwy 447. I found an indistinct little road off the highway that went directly east towards Kumiva for about 2 miles and ended a the base of the peak. This road was little more than a cow path. From where I parked, I crossed a little creek that the cows have destroyed and climbed up the left side of the drainage on sandy rounded hills. I followed cow paths about half way up and then game trails through the sage to where I intersected the north ridge of Kumiva. I turned south and climbed the last 800 ft in elevation up a steep and surprisingly brushy slope to the summit. Beautiful clear day. There is a road that leaves Hwy 447 a couple miles north of my cow path road that is probably better access to the peak. The road comes all the way in to the north ridge of Kumiva and it is probably a better approach path.
