Kinda late but I think I remember some of the details. My dad and I both wore crampons because we did not have snowshoes and they gave plenty of traction over the snow. The snow was beginning to melt at the parking lot in the heat of the sun. We took the Holt Trail and then the Clark Trail, an easier ascent than just the Holt Trail. The Clark Trail is a ski trail, and a number of skiers were there. We passed by the abandoned Forest Service (state not nat'l I think) cabin and then climbed the bare rocks to the summit. There was no snow at the summit and lots of wind, but not enough to knock us over. The sky was clear and the sun bright reflecting off the surrounding snow. Unlimited visibility. We continued over the summit into the col between Cardigan and Firescrew and summited the wooded sub-peak. We then followed the ridge for a slow descent back to the vehicles. A good day but featured some quibbling over directions. |
