Ascent Trip ReportI did a point-to-point northbound traverse over the Moat's Range 4 Peaks, moderate trails throughout the route except for a short steep scramble on way to North Moat Mountain ...... 9.6 miles, less than 6 hours.
Yesterday (an off day due to rain, we stayed at the Yankee Clipper Hotel in North Conway)) Rose and I checked out the TH'S on both ends of today's point-to-point hike. This morning Rose dropped me off at the Moat Mountain TH on Passaconaway Road west of Conaway at 8h10 hours, then left for a day of shopping, I estimated the hike at about 6-7 hours.
I climbed nb on the Moat Mountain Trail going over South Moat/Middle Moat/Red Ridge/North Moat Mountains, and descended the Moat Trail to the Attitash trail, visited the Diana's Baths, and came out at the Diana's Baths TH on the West Side Road. Rose was there waiting, the time was 14h00 hours. I moved most of the day, stopping only for short snack breaks.
The Moat Mountain ridge and its summits is an awesome fully open rock route with outstanding views of the Washington Valley, rung by its granite peaks. Patches of snow on the lofty reaches of Mount Washington. A highly recommended traverse.
My visit to Diana's Baths was well worth the time ..... cascading falls with a number of pools and a very easy trail access, very popular with families. I loved my day.
Tonight we will stay at the same Hotel in North Conway and tomorrow the plan is to climb the East and West Royce Mountains in the Baldface Royce Range northeast of here.
"IN THE END,IT'S NOT GOING TO MATTER HOW MANY BREATHS YOU TOOK (AND I DO TAKE A LOT OF THEM) ..... BUT HOW MANY MOMENTS TOOK YOUR BREATH AWAY."
