Ascent Trip Report

See James Barlow's driving track. Had a cow elk run across the road just in front of me. Then on the descent not too far from the top I encountered a brown bear ahead on the road, not 100 yards away. I stopped quickly and reached for my camera, but by the time I could get ready to shoot the bear suddenly became worried about me and bolted. The bear looked for all the world like a small grizzly, but I can't say for sure, and I suppose it could be a brown-colored black bear. The road was not bad, the only thing that might challenge a low-riding sedan were the dry ruts along several stretches.
