Ascent Trip ReportDIRECTIONS
See multiple other trip reports for GPS track. Had to stop at 47.6241, -120.6981. Recent rains made it impossible to drive with AWD Element. All the way to the ridge parking TH is possible for SUV in dry conditions. Several deeper spots on road because of small washouts make passenger car impossible.
Tagged on the way back from Baring Mt. after cancelling plans for North Cascades because of weather. Easy road hike and use trail on summit ridge. East side of summit boulder has 4th class cracks to summit on very knobby grippy rock. Could be awkward or scary for someone not used to bouldering.
Interestingly, lots of evidence of mountain bike and/or dirtbike use including a log balance problem on the summit ridge.
0/1 ACCESS (roads, restrictions) - need moderate SUV at minimum
1/1 REMOTENESS (popularity, sight/Sound) - no one else around and likely wouldn't normally be
1/1 CONDITION (trail/route) - unmaintained but established trail
1/2 VARIETY (flora/fauna, geology, terrain) - point for a fun summit scramble
1/2 VIEWS (frequency, quality) - great views of Leavenworth in the valley and several views of Wenatchee river drainage waterfalls
0/1 AWE (does it inspire) - just a bump near a valley
0/2 DANIEL FACTOR (would I enjoy climbing this again: 0=No, 1=Meh, 2=Yes) - no reason
(does not include difficulty since hikers may prefer opposite extremes)
