Ascent Trip Report

A trail and whack to 4 peaks ..... 8.3 miles, 2200' gain, 5:50 hours RT including all breaks and bushwhacks

My route to the 4 peaks described here is nicely shown on Ben Morrow's GPS track. Some of the distances and elevations that I provide are estimates only.
I overnighted at the Dacy Clearing TH Parking. The trail to Sleeping Beauty Lookout was exceptional busy today.

0.0M ... left Dacy Clearing TH (43.54945,-73.55555, elev 1350')north bound on the Yellow trail.
0.5M ... Trail JCT Yellow/Blue Trail (elev 1660'). The Blue trail leaves on the right (1.2 miles) for Sleeping Beauty Lookout. I stayed on Yellow as it makes a sharp left bend still northbound.
1.1M ... Yellow Trail reaches a crest (43.55905,-73.55210, elev 2080')). I bushwhacked northwest 300 yds to SLEEPING BEAUTY-NORTH PEAK. Easy fairly open woods, no views. Once back to the trail I continued north.
1.8M ... Northwest end of Bumps Pond and Yellow/Blue Trail JCT (43.56339,-73.55019, elev 2030')). Yellow continues right to Fishbrook Pond, I turned left onto the Blue Trail for Erebus.
2.6M ... Blue/Red Trail JCT (elev 1840') just past beaver dam. Blue trail heads left, I turned right onto the Red Trail for Erebus.
3.3M ... Trail crests at a long flat area northwest of the Erebus Summit. On the right side of this flat section is an impressive vertical rock wall. At the start of the flat area (43.57652,-73.55486, elev 2240') there is a small herd path on the right that climbs southwest to EREBUS MOUNTAIN. This was my route which is pink flagged. I bushwhacked a southwest route always looking for the herd path (lost it a few times). There are 2 major obstacles to deal - 2 rock walls requiring some scrambling with all fours. The herd path at the bottom of the second rock wall is at (43.57712,-73.55177). Overall the woods are fairly open. The summit has 2 bumps, a rock cairn (with an old aluminum canteen) marks the spot. The RT whack of abt .3 miles took me 1 hour.
3.6M ... Back to Red Trail, descended south bound.
5.1M ... Northwest end of Bumps Pond (elev 2030'), turned left on Yellow Trail.
5.3M ... Yellow/Blue Trail JCT (elev 2030'). I turned right on the Blue Trail, bridge over the outlet creek of Bumps Pond . The trail climbs south bound.
5.9M ... Trail attains a crest (43.55801,-73.54930), I bushwhacked northwest in open woods 80 yds to the summit of SLEEPING BEAUTY HIGH POINT. A rock cairn marks the spot, no views.
6.0M ... back to the Trail I continued south
6.5M ... a spur trail heads right (west) 150 yds to the SLEEPING BEAUTY LOOKOUT. Outstanding rock summit full of hikers. After enjoying the gorgeous setting with a snack I returned to the trail and continued south.
7.8M ... Trail JCT Blue/Yellow. I turned left.
8.3M ... out at Dacy Clearing.
