Ascent Trip Report

4th Peak in the Black Mountains on a nice but wet out and back day.

From the BRP at Walker Knob, hike NE on the MST and over Blackstock Knob (see my other post for details).

There is a sincere and appreciable descent from Blackstock Knob to this less known peak. The highest ground is off trail after passing through a gap between the two peaks. As I ascended through some switchbacks via the the MST I was beginning to wonder where is the summit? Fortunately I found the high ground behind a distinctive rock formation off trail to the west (.15 miles). Just below I found a surveyor's marker and a concrete column nearby.

From this point you can continue on the MST around Potato Knob or head back to Walker Knob Overlook. Roughly 3 miles from that origin point to the HP. Pushback up to higher Blackstock Knob was arduous but not disconcerting. I decided that on this hike that a rainy day at 6000+ feet is far preferable to an 80 degree day at lower elevations.
