Ascent Trip Report

To add on to Powen's account, starting from Pozo summit, I followed the wide ATV/dirt bike road to the poorly defined junction with the Pine Mountain trail. There is a small shot-up sign here that says "Pine Mountain Trail", which was quite discouraging due to heavy brush well over my head marking the start of this trail. It has not been maintained for many years. I pushed through the brush for about 100 feet, then left the trail and headed straight up the ridge when the overgrown trail became too difficult. In less than 5 minutes I was at the top of the ridge with the trail well-defined at this point. The trail alternated between very obvious to barely apparent, but overall I moved pretty fast along the ridge. Except when slowed considerably several times along the route when I walked into small pine tree stands. Seems these trees mark sections of the trail that are most heavily overgrown and non-existent. The last 1/2 mile out to the summit was also heavily overgrown, but I could just follow the trail all the way to the little pile of rocks the Powen describes marking the high point. I added a few more rocks because I guess that's what you do with each visit. I had no view because heavy fog reduced visibility to 200 feet most of the time. If this peak is on your to-do list, climb it within the next 5-10 years because the trail is becoming a slightly more difficult bush-whack with each passing year.
