Ascent Trip Report

navajo nation park permits are available online. the website is a bit confusing... you want to select a "general admission" to "monument valley" and then after you get a calendar, and select a date, you can add "back country permits" to your cart. if you end up downloading a PDF file instead then you probably fell into the UI trap of selecting "back country" first rather than "general admission"!

the yazzie trail was pretty easy overall. we followed beth lakin's track, and took her suggestion of parking below the gate. we compared the various other tracks along the hike, and all options eventually converge.

many other reports caused me some consternation about the safety of my vehicle at the trailhead, but i really have to wonder if those reports are warranted. if you're still concerned then it's an easy flat 4mi round-trip addition to park at the chevron or hotel. we had that as a back-up plan because of the horrible rain in the forecast, worst case we figured we'd walk it... but thankfully we didn't have to: it would have been a muddy mess.

this was a double list finish for me: county high point and prominence point.
