Ascent Trip Report
Trip in 2007 leading Scouts at Philmont Scout Ranch. Date may be +/- 1 day.
Scout leading Crew was not best navigator; spent an extra 2 hours on trail as Scout learned some basics of orienteering. Made for a long hike, but the Scout learned, which is ultimately the point.
Summited in early afternoon with crew of 10. Area usually has heavy/severe thunderstorms at about 3 pm each day. In the face of a looming storm, we trekked down shortly after summiting. Tallest Scout's hair stood on end for a few minutes and I decided it was time for descent. No Scouts (or leaders) were hurt in the summiting of this mountain. |
