Ascent Trip ReportWe left Timberline at 12:10am. We had clear skies and no moon, so the stars were shining brightly. We headed up the groomed climbers trail past Silcox and to the top of the Palmer in 2 hours. We continued on to the Hogsback making good time. The snow on the Hogsback was firm but not icy. We headed up to the Pearly Gates. We set a line but the snow was not too icy. We got to the summit at 7:30. We had good views of Rainier, St. Helens, Adams, Jefferson, and the Three Sisters. We headed back down the way we came using a line. As the morning continued, the snow became softer and by the time we got back to the climbers trail at the Palmer, it was a slushy mess. But, we were back at the cars at 1:00pm. We had perfect weather and snow conditions. Very little wind. This was a Mazama group of 12.
