Ascent Trip ReportPicked an awesome day to do my first Colorado 13er and "five-digit" peak.
From the parking area at Loveland Pass, the trail ascended somewhat steeply to the first subpeak of Sniktau (called "East Loveland Pass Peak" on PB). I had never been close to this altitude before, so I took it nice and slow going up this section (as well as the hike in general). The whole trail was above treeline, so there were spectacular views the whole time. When I got to that subpeak, the views became 360 degrees and significantly more expansive. From there, I made my way in a northerly direction toward the south peak of Sniktau. Once I got there, I saw the actual summit, which wasn't as far away as it looked. After a short dip and re-climb, I stood atop Mt. Sniktau. Best view I've ever seen from a mountain to date, and the fact that many of the surrounding peaks were still snow-covered made the vista a lot more imposing. Hung out here for a few and then hiked back the way I came to my car at Loveland Pass.
