Ascent Trip ReportPlan was to go up to Catfish Fire Tower only, but met a couple guys before I headed out. They said there was a "restaurant" out there, meaning a lodge. I asked if there was a Hiker Box and there was so I gathered up a few things and altered my plan. After the tower hike (dry, rocky), stayed on the Appalachian Trail to the Mohican Outdoor Center, operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. The sign said there was information about trails, maps, etc. The facility is very nice, with a store, big dining room and free fresh cookies. I dropped some stuff into the hiker box and kept looking around for info about where to start back to my car (knew the general direction via GPS). Still, no one in sight. Some other hikers gave me the info needed: Rattlesnake Swamp trail (muddy, wet in spots, rocky). The entire section from tower back to car was really pretty. Glad I kept going. Used poles for general balance, not really necessary.
