Ascent Trip Report

Recreation permits are not available at Basha's market in Peridot. There is a Tribal Rec. office about a mile further east, but it was closed on a Sunday. It is open till about noon on Saturdays and about 4:30PM weekdays. The tribe should make it easier to get a permit.
I followed Richard Hensley's driving directions which are good, but I didn't get as far and stopped at a saddle and junction at 5500ft. where I camped. This was 8.5 miles in on BIA560 from Calva Road. One could drive a bit further, but the camp spots are not as good. There is a big log across the road at 6660ft. which will stop all vehicles.
A 4WD, high-clearance vehicle is needed. There are some deep dips across drainages and one very sharp switchback getting to the 5500ft. saddle. The topo map shows the road along the ridge ending, but it does drop down and connect to a road coming up the canyon. This might be an alternate way in.
