Ascent Trip Report

very icy & slick. we stay to the fin of exposed rock as much as possible on the way up... very windy and cold at the summit. great clear views of 2 day old eruption on nearby Ruapehu. we can see west to Mt Taranaki. we again take the rocks down until the snow softens up until we can punch steps and glisade on the way down. great climb without any real climbing gear! this is the mountain that serves as "Mount Doom" in Lord of the Rings!
