Ascent Trip ReportTook Gill Brook trail to Colvin. Some snow on trail, still a lot off trail. Icy sections as well. Gill Brook was running pretty good with some nice waterfalls. Used Hillsounds for early part of trail then switched to snowshoes the remainder up and back. Section almost to summit had huge postholes where a man sunk in his entire leg. Use caution. Headed to Blake, some really tricky icy sections. Made it to wooden stairs and we agreed to turn back as summiting would have put us in the dark and unsafe. Very nice views of Ausable River. On the way back, stopped back at Colvin summit and saw a pine martin several yards away.
Several others were on the way to Nippletop but couldn't find the sign, most likely buried in snow so everyone went to Colvin. A few said they were going to Blake, but only found footsteps to the wooden stairs. Looks like no one went to summit either.
