Ascent Trip Report

Like the Ponderosa Pine and granite pinnacle public lands and this is another one of those!

This subpeak stands out near the road and on a old 4 by 4 trail so it is easy to grab. The park service is trying to restore the ground that the HP is on so the new trails skirt the peak but it is an easy bushwhack or follow the old jeep road. Decent views easy to grab. The West Ridge Loop Trail nabs it and the closest good parking is at Pence Park but if you want to make if more of a climb you park along Myers Gulch Road in one of the many turnouts and class 2 up the side like this GPS track. Then on to the south I wanted to find the highest ground in the park. I found it but it was not the highest land in the public lands. My GPS track took me over to that as well but it is a big rounded hill that is technically in Pence Park but not the highest point in Pence Park so I crossed the road and headed back along other routes. Note that the highest ground in this park is the hill adjacent to this peak and it is a bit higher and terminates in a nice granitic pinnacle with some steep falls and nice views but is OFF trail. Another easy bushwhack from the trail.
