Ascent Trip ReportFrom a lay-by on the A494 to the east near the start of the track to Wern-ddu. Follow the track to the farm. From the farm the right of way is a little difficult to follow - I only found the right way on the return. Go past the farm through a gate. When the vehicle track turns to the left, go right unpromisingly along a grassy track towards another substantial gate. Go through this gate and turn 90 degrees to your left and go uphill. You are now in an enclosure but there is a small stile at the upper edge.
Step over this and rejoin a vehicle track. This is used for "off-road" vehicle events so beware. There are signs indicating where the right of way goes, often on narrow tracks adjacent to and parallel with the vehicle track. If it is quiet it is as easy to follow the vehicle track.
You have been walking through rough woodland and soon you emerge from this. There is one final yellow arrow pointing the way over a fence (no stile). From here the location of the right of way on the ground also disappears. Head for the tumbledown building marked as Pennant on the map where there is another stile.
To the left a large wind turbine has been visible. 300m beyond Pennant I left the right of way and headed roughly south over a wet field towards the turbine. There was one barbed wire topped fence but that could be stepped over with care. I carried on towards the turbine. There was an open gate there and the start of a track that services the wind farm.
Follow the track for 400m to another gate and cattle grid. The summit trig has come into view. Once through this gate head to the trig. The views are somewhat spoiled by wind turbines. But this is a relatively isolated hill so the views are wide ranging.
Back the same way. An alternative ascent can be made from the north west following the tracks serving the turbines.
