Ascent Trip Report

This was a shuttle hike. We started at the Mt Elden Trailhead parking lot on the 89.Hiked the trail to Fatmans loop, at the top of the loop we cut on to the Mt.Elden trail. At the summit we walked the service rd north to a paralleling single track called Sunset Trail that took us to sunset park and the Heart trail but we kept going along the ridge toward Little Elden. When the trail turned west into a valley at the Little Bear trail turn off we hiked crosscountry up to Dry Lake Hills summit then back to The Little Bear Trail which was in bad shape after the Shultz fire. About half way down it started to pour,we got soaked and the trail gave way under us twice. But the scary part was the Lightning,it hit a burned out tree about 300ft from us. It was so loud it made me scream. When we got to the Arizons Trail the rain let up and we hiked it for about a mile then cut across the forest to Elden Springs rd. and walked to the 1st locked gate where we had parked the other truck. We cleaned up and ate dinner at the Horseman's Lodge on 89, good salad bar.
