Ascent Trip ReportAs per previous TR, high ground is a wooded sandy mound near the parking lot. Contrary to Fred's experience, I walked the entire boardwalk, then chose to approach from near the start of it by the paved circle, just left of the beginning of the boardwalk. I was able to walk up a sandy slope with minor brush, nothing scratchy. The top is occupied by a medium tree with spread out branches. Crawling up to head height I could clearly see I was higher than anywhere else. I left a coin stuck in the tree at head height from the ground. I did see the old concrete items on the ground nearby. No sign of a benchmark, but there was a lot of low groundcover. Saw that there was considerably more brush from the highpoint of the boardwalk to the highpoint as per Fred. About the same distance from where I accessed, and of course I had to walk uphill about 20' instead of 10'.
No one was walking the path, I would say there was minimal sketch factor to this, but I wouldn't advertise my intentions were I to visit again.
Take the ferry ride to the actual fort. Free, short, goes once an hour. Check schedule as soon as you arrive, well posted in the parking lot. Interesting site. About 45 minutes total for the tour.
