Ascent Trip Report

I booked through Mr Een (pronounced “N”) He is the premier trek organized for Kerinci, with universally great reviews. He helped me book a driver, hotel, and get the usd11/day permit. Altogether it was around usd200. I could have done it cheaper, but why risk missing a summit to save a little money.

I opted to schlepp all of my own gear and go unguided. For a bit more, Een will provide a total package. My stuff is ultralight with a base weight of of about six pounds. If you have a heavy load, hire a porter so you don’t collapse going up 4-5k elevation on the approach.

Itinerary:
Arrive in Badang at 720 am on Friday
Get to TH at 4:30 pm
Hike to Camp 2 (10,000’ elevation. Rat infested)
Wake up at 1 am on Saturday when rat crawled into my bivy.
Summit pre-dawn, not that it matters since I was hiking in a cloud
Back to TH by 11 am
Return on Sunday to catch afternoon flight back to KL.

My legs are too shot from the rough trails to consider doing another Ultra. Also driving in Indonesia is SLOW, taking 3x the time that you would expect based on distances.

Thanks Ken for the tracks!
