Ascent Trip Report

a freak winter snow storm went through vegas a couple days ago, and this peak was fairly well covered with a few inches of snow. however it was late enough in the day that it had started to melt... so my trek varied between stomping through light snow, to sinking an inch or two into the mud and trying to keep moving quickly in case that wasn't as far as i was going to sink.

i went up following eric kassan's track, and then at the summit my eyes played a trick on me and said the hill to the west was possibly just as high, and why don't i walk over there. so walk over there i did (on some of the freshest snow of the day), and discovered it definitely wasn't as high as the high point. i pulled out openstreetmap (via "global topo" layer in PB app) and discovered the boneshaker trail would go more directly down from where i was. a bit of (muddy and snowy) cross-country and i was back on a trail.

it was nice seeing this area wet and snow covered, rather than dry and hot.
