Ascent Trip Report16km 4h up, 2h15 down, from good unpaved road SSE of summit, forking off main road N of Akesta. Should be possible to drive higher: examining OpenStreetMap suggests a few options but our guide and driver having none of it!
The day after our Choqa climb. We checked out a couple of options then took the main unpaved road (turnoff at N10.89789° E39.16266°) to a convenient point where a trail started up to the right (N10.90351° E39.13565°, 3563m), seemingly miraculously being met by a local scout/guide whom our guide Meles had contacted although seemingly hadn't agreed a meeting point.
Trail passing nice meadows and cultivated terraces, passing thru a col then contouring L with our peak visible ahead, past impressive outcrop of columnar basalt, to a col, then direct line up half-right, alternating tussocky grass, low shrubs and short grass, to rocky summit (GPS N10.95072° E39.10463°, 4268m, boulder). Petter is there just inside 3hrs, Richard Denise and I an hour later with various ailments.
Sunny morning, grey and chilly on top, a few spots of rain. Down in 2hrs, Then 3hr drive to Dessie, arriving after dark, all of us seen recovered in time for dinner. Tomorrow we head for Abune Josef
